HIV/AIDS, a major issue in Sierra Leone
In Sierra Leone, 58 000 persons live with HIV/AIDS and only 1 in 3 recieve a treatment. The observation is even more alarming with children since of 3000 of them living with the virus, only 457 are treated; that is 1 child out of 6. In these conditions, many children die before the age of 5. Beyond access to treatment, the question of its follow-up is also predominant : 30% of those treated still interrupt their treatment during the first year.
Empower, an effective project to roll back HIV/AIDS
Set up in 2016 in 12 healthcare facilities, the Empower project aims at improving medical care and follow-up for HIV/AIDS patients already treated, but also at reaching more people living with HIV/AIDS in order to treat them. Our action is based on support to all stakeholders (healthcare professionals, patients and their relatives) to give everyone the means to sustainbly improve HIV/AIDS care in Sierra Leone.
