Côte d’Ivoire: the end of American aid

On February 26, the US government announced that it was cutting 5,800 USAID grants and canceling 4,100 State Department subsidies to 92% of its development agency’s overseas programs. The stated aim: to save “nearly $60 billion” for American taxpayers. These savings will come at a high price for the recipients of this aid, particularly in Africa. And a threat to the fight against HIV on the continent. For example, in Côte d’Ivoire, a country heavily dependent on funding from Washington.
