Context

The Association des Femmes Actives et Solidaires (AFASO) is an association of women infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, regardless of age, religion or race. Founded in 1999, its mission is to help improve the quality of life of PLWHA and orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), and to empower women through income-generating activities (IGAs) and the promotion of human rights and gender. A number of structural and organisational shortcomings were identified in terms of governance, membership, finance and resource mobilisation. The support for which Solthis has been selected is in response to the need to give impetus to the restructuring and strategic repositioning of the organisation at national level. To achieve this, AFASO needs to clarify its missions and areas of intervention and strengthen its structure and its capacity to carry out larger-scale programmes.
