NEWSLETTER 9 : March 2010 - Special CASA

Health is a right
Having access to it is vital
Research is often separated from the implementation of health actions or interventions. However to improve access to quality care, it is crucial for countries to be able to question their practices, adapt them to their changing context, test solutions to problems encountered, and evaluate the contribution of certain innovations. To do this, the development of operational research capacities is essential, as it shows how to strengthen, critically examine and possibly modify interventions. Thus, operational research is a cross-cutting approach in our projects and comprises two types of research:
interventional: to evaluate the effect of an intervention and document the associated dimensions to make it more effective and sustainable (pilot intervention studies, implementation studies)
Research with a dual focus: field and academic
Operational research at Solthis can mobilize, in parallel or simultaneously depending on the needs, almost all biomedical, clinical and public health scientific disciplines, including economic, human and social sciences. Solthis thus mobilizes multidisciplinary academic expertise in order to take into account all dimensions of health issues. Indeed, Solthis’ operational research is based on a multidisciplinary (epidemiological, medical, sociological, anthropological, economic and political) and participatory vision that aims to strengthen the exchange of knowledge and the co-construction of interventions with all the stakeholders (academics, politicians, population) in order to improve the efficiency and quality of our interventions while empowering our targeted beneficiaries.
Thanks to its multidisciplinary expertise, Solthis supports research in several ways:
